Return on Compliance

Apr 18, 2024

Almost every business or organisation we know talks about a return on investment, it is fundamental to many decisions, whether capital, operational or organisational - what benefit will the decision enable? Sometimes it is hard to quantify value with dollar amounts, however many business and companies have methods of comparing "value", in some cases industry or company specific. Businesses want to ensure there resources are being deployed effectively to create value.

Where the value equation often breaks is where people or businesses "have to" do things. This may be through external mechanisms (government regulation, industry standards, customer expectations) or internal mechanisms (company policies, existing processes, internal governance). Compliance and assurance is often one of these areas, business through external regulation, teams through internal policies, "have to" comply with certain rules and assure they are meeting the minimum expectations, often through an audit function. If you are already doing something, it would be logical to see how one can get the most value from the activity.

This is where we developed the Return on Compliance methodology.
